The Lifestyle Creed

1.What does the word “creed” mean? Where else do we see this word used?
The word "creed" was used in the title and is defined as a word of religion or faith

2.Look up any words you don’t know in this poem and then write an original sentence using the word to show that you understand its meaning.
Cognitive- mental process of understanding knowledge, Oleocanthal- chemical compound found in Extra Virgin Olive oil, Annals- record of events year by year, Therpeutics- healing, Amyloid- a protein found in the liver, kidneys or other tissues in certain diseases, Plaques-plate.

3.Look up the Catholic Nicene Creed. What is it? Look up the words. Compare them to this poem. How are they similar? How are they different?
Catholic Nicene Creed is a statement of belief that Catholic religion uses part of the profession of faith required of those understanding important functions within the Catholic Church (prayer). Both the poem and prayer interrelate in a way where their beliefs are based of different aspects, as the poem is about their belief in food and the prayer is about their faith in God. Although, the poem has certain verses which repeat some of the prayer verses and this was purposely used as the poet is a Catholic herself and goes by this prayer.

4.Why does the author use cut up bits of text? What effect does it have?
The poet purposely uses cut up bits of texts to show that she used theses sentences from different sources

5.Why does the author use two different font styles? Compare the way they look. Why did the author do this? What do each of the font styles represent?
To show that the two different styles relate to two different aspects such as the prayer and nutritional advice from a blog.

6.Why do you think the author has juxtaposed the Nicene Creed with words such as “brain boosters”, “antioxidants”, and “good cholesterol”? What meaning is she trying to convey? Is this effective? What is the effect on the reader?
To influence the reader that good nutrition can have a positive impact on your spiritual and physical well being

7. What is the overall purpose of the poem?
Referencing food to the power of God and how he is the saviour to your health

8. What is the overall tone of the poem?

Healing,spiritual

9. Read the last two lines of the poem. What ideas do these lines suggest?
They both end in positive ways like the Catholic prayer ends

10. Do you like this poem? Why or why not?
Initially I did not enjoy this poem as I did not fully understand the concept and idea of it, but as I went further in depth with it, I enjoyed it as I could understand it more

11. Add images to your post which go along with or represent this poem.

I am participating within a group of 4 Juanita, Tamara, Lina and I. we will be using the instrumental to rap and sing, "Scared to Fall in Love". We are working on our chorus and verses, as we have finished Lina's rap

Is it going well, does it sound good?

Our group are just finding different words to match up with Lina's rap in order to make an amusing chorus/verse, either than that we are up to date with our work

Plans for next week

Our plans for next week is to practise our chorus and verses

Friday 8th June

What is the most challenging part of the composition?

The most challenging part is coming up with lyrics because it is really difficult to use specific words for our topic (suicide and God)

Taking it to action! - step 6, 7 and 8

Our first action was to donate and help the homeless and those in need by giving to City Mission following with our third and fourth action plan. When coming across this we had a disabler during our action, City Mission was not in of need clothes but toiletries, as too many groups from our school had already donated enough clothes, we also agreed on just sticking to our 2nd action (Salvation Army). We then came across our second plan, donating to Salvation Army.

When gathering information about Salvation Army, we were introduced to its history and the founders of the organisation, William Booth and his wife Catherine. They were both a interesting presence to their own organisation, Salvation Army. As they both carried on their company with pride Catherine endured our honor to get up and help her organisation with a quote, "A Salvation that does not lead to service is no salvation at all".

Our idea had become a success and overall was a good outcome. As told to help the community we were overjoyed due to our givings of clothes to this certain organisation. What enabled my group and I to do this was the society themselves as they allowed us to donate our clothing.

To reflect, overall my group and I thought our idea was as good as it sounds and were overly pleased to their reaction. Even though physically walking there was a struggle, we knew not to give up as the homeless go through worse everyday. We are looking forward to helping the community again.

Plan to success - step 5

What can we do!?

Our plans of action towards homelessness

Steps needed to achieve the goal.
What will help us achieve this goal?(Enabler)
Possible barriers and how they could be overcome.
Who is responsible for this step?
Date this step will be achieved by.
Discussing with city mission about our positive impact and making sure they agree to our statement we want to do to help with those in need
City mission allowing and giving permission for us to donate

If city mission does not agree with our requirements- if city mission will not accept we could always ask another organisation or society
Caleb- Contacting city mission
Discussing with salvation army about our positive impact and making sure they agree to our statement we want to do to help with those in need
Salvation army allowing and giving permission for us to donate
If Salvation does not agree with our requirements- if they are not impressed then we could volunteer with a charity and help the homeless
Caleb or Emmanuel- Contact Salvation Army
Advertising posters around our school. to persuade  other students and spread the word about homelessness by getting involved  with the 40 hour famine challenge
If all students can be aware of it

If teachers can get involved too

If students don't know about it- We could always ask to put the information online e.g. Facebook, school notices, PBL communities yr 10 page, etc.
Emmanuel, Alofa, Shakira, Mr Aitken and Lina
Buying certain goodies to impress hornby students and persuade them to help buy out tickets
Getting students to understand what we are trying to do, to help solve our problem (Homelessness)
Students not buying raffle tickets- we could sell our tickets outside of school e.g. church, neighbors/friends, etc.

Seekers

For PBL(Project Based Learning) all students from the year group 9 and 10 have been told to help the community by having a positive impact and doing something to help make difference. We were introduced to this to expand our knowledge about our project and do something about it, then being questioned, how can we have a desired effect on our community?

To do so we all had to form a group of 3-4 in your from class, as told as we were my group included Alofa, Shakira and Lina. Our next step was to choose a topic and find a way to help and make a difference, agreeing to do a project on the homeless. When we gathered our information we arranged our group name to be "The Seekers". Seekers was a name to be defined as "Looking", looking to find help those in need, looking for a difference to be seen around us or helping and seeking others, for instance, the homeless.

We were then asked, how are we going to solve this issue?

My group and I then all agreed to help by giving or feeding those who are less fortunate in needs of food, clothing, ect.
